Remember last year when I posted about the bridal expo that was hotter than Hades? Well, that's where I met Anne and Mike for the first time. They had traveled up from the city to see the event, and fortunately for me they still wanted to book me despite the fact that I was sweating like a hell-beast on a Sunday. So, the design process for this suite started way back in November, 2008.
Anne and Mike both are of Asian heritage--he Korean, and she Chinese. I loved learning about traditional Asian wedding customs from them. For example, though the color red signifies good luck and good fortune, it is never acceptable to print names in red ink because it correlates with blood and death. Another common practice in Asian weddings is having a Master of Ceremonies. Anne told me that her cousin in Taiwan actually hired a famous television star to be her MC--Anne and Mike chose two of their most entertaining friends to do the job. Their rehearsal dinner featured lots of traditional Asian foods and desserts as well, like green tea creme brulée!
I'm hoping that sometime soon I'll have some more beautiful photos (it's not hard to see how bad my photo-taking abilities are!) from her photographer. But in the meantime, I've posted some of my own.
Anne was very involved in the design process and came to the consultation with lots of her own detailed ideas. (She also enlisted the help of Danielle Bobish of Curtain Up Events to bring her vision together) The stationery ensemble consisted of a pocketfold invitation that we custom printed and constructed out of 100% cotton Crane's paper, right here in the Mew studio. We also produced square menus with shimmering red belly bands, 4-paneled booklet programs each with a different cover design, notecards for each guest to write the newlyweds a note, and large signs for the food stations.
Now, the newlyweds are headed off on a two-week safari honeymoon in Africa! I believe when you host the wedding of a lifetime you need to cap it off with the trip of a lifetime! Congratulations Anne and Mike!
